The rules for setting legal fees differ in each jurisdiction.
In some countries, lawyers are free to negotiate their fees with their clients, while in others, fees are regulated by law or by Bar Associations.
Fee structures can also vary by jurisdiction. For example, in some countries contingency fees are allowed while in others these are strictly limited or prohibited. Other type of fee structures include hourly rates, lump-sum agreements, caps, fixed fees etc.
Bar Associations play an important role in assessing legal costs, particularly in circumstances where clients are dissatisfied with what their lawyers have charged and when a court orders that a losing litigant pays the legal costs of the winning party.
This webinar will explore the different fee structures and the alternative rulings for setting of fees in various jurisdictions, and the role of Bar Associations.
