What can lawyers, bars and law societies do about the refugee crisis?

The legal and operational issues of forced migration will be widely discussed at the Valencia Congress. Several discussions will be initiated to address the complex legal and practical problems refugees face on a daily basis.

Following the explosive rise in the number of people who are forced to flee their homes to escape violence and seek refuge, in their own countries or abroad, the need for legal assistance for refugees has dramatically increased.  Now, more than ever, lawyers are needed to protect the rights of refugees.

As advocates for fundamental human rights, freedoms and liberties and the rule of law, independent lawyers have an essential role to play to ensure that fundamental human rights are recognized, regardless of the nature of the migration, and that all asylum seekers are treated in a humane and dignified manner.
