Note from the editor - UIA News - February 2016

Dear colleagues,

The team for the UIA newsletter wishes you a Happy New Year 2016!

Let me also welcome our colleague Pierre Viviani as a co-editor of our newsletter. We are very thankful for his cooperation and willingness to help issuing this newsletter on behalf of the UIA.

In this issue, we have included quite a lot of information about the UIA organisation for this year, so everybody is aware on planning for the upcoming seminars and training courses, membership fees, and national get-together.

Besides, we have as the first article by our collective members and overview of the activities of the German bar, which we would like to continue by ongoing articles of other bar associations to provide an overview and probably a common ground as to what is discussed around the world in our profession.

Our Dutch member Olivier van Hardenbroek has provided us thankfully with a highly interesting article about an attempt in the Netherlands of tapping telephone conversations between lawyers. It is one of these critical examples that prove that the independence of our profession is nothing we can ever take as granted.

Our representative at the United Nations has provided us once more with an insight of our activities on this platform.

Finally, we include an overview of the efforts and struggling of our team dealing with the defence of the defence, showing where all over the world it is needed to defend our colleagues who themselves have done nothing but defend the rights of their clients.

On behalf of the UIA newsletter team I wish you a good start in 2016 and look forward to seeing you all. As always, your input on our newsletter product is much welcomed.

Best regards,

Pierre Viviani  &   Marcus Schriefers
