The 2025 edition of International Fair Trial Day and the Ebru Timtik Award Ceremony, focused on Tunisia, was held on 12 June 2025, hosted at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium. The event brougth together judges, lawyers, academics, journalists, human rights defenders, and international, regional, and country-based stakeholders to reflect on the state of fair trial rights and judicial independence in Tunisia.
The programme featured high-level keynote speeches and three thematic sessions with distinguished speakers and moderators. UIA-IROL was represented by Julie Goffin, Deputy Director General of UIA-IROL.
The Nomination Committe of the 2025 Ebru Timtik Prize unanimously decided to grant the award to detained lawyer Ahmed Souab "not only to honor a lifetime devoted to the rule of law and fair trials, but also because his current situation requires urgent international solidarity and visibility.”
In awarding Mr. Souab the Ebru Timtik Prize, the jury also wished "to extend this tribute to all other nominees and, more broadly, to all lawyers, judges, and human rights defenders around the world who face imprisonment, judicial harassment, professional retaliation, or other forms of persecution for their commitment to defending fundamental rights and freedoms".
