Italian National Committee

Under the presidency of Alberto Pasino, the Italian Committee of the UIA has reached new heights in 2024, winning the prestigious award for the Best National Committee of the UIA, which was presented during the UIA World Congress in Paris. The committee, now composed of over one hundred individual members and several collective members representing esteemed institutions, such as the Naples Bar Association, continues to grow in influence and reach across Italy.

In 2024, the Italian Committee’s leadership includes distinguished professionals who chair key commissions and focus groups within the UIA. Barbara Bandiera presides over the Banking and Finance Law Commission, which was recognized as the UIA's best commission for 2024. Additional esteemed members include Mariaelena Giorcelli, President of the CISG Commission; Anna Montesano, President of the Transport Law Commission; Diego Saluzzo, President of the Agrifood Law Commission; and Massimo Sterpi, who leads the AI Focus Group.

The committee holds meetings across various cities in Italy throughout the year, fostering widespread engagement with the UIA’s mission. Meeting minutes are shared with all members, and an English version is sent to the UIA Centre in Paris. Additionally, the Italian Committee publishes its own newsletter to keep members informed about scientific and educational events organized both in Italy and internationally.

The Italian Committee’s members are highly active in organizing seminars and scientific events, having hosted numerous educational sessions—seminars and courses—under UIA’s patronage in the previous years. In recognition of its commitment to legal education, the Italian National Bar Council has authorized the Italian Committee to establish a Higher Specialized Legal Education School. This school offers advanced training in European and International Law, with a focus on international commercial law, business law, and human rights.

In recent years, the Italian Committee has played a critical role in advancing the UIA’s mission in Italy by:
1. Expanding UIA’s presence across the national territory;
2. Promoting and implementing UIA’s principles and guidelines;
3. Encouraging active participation from Italian members in UIA events;
4. Disseminating high-level cultural and scientific knowledge.

The Italian Committee remains a pillar of UIA’s international presence, fostering a vibrant community of legal professionals dedicated to excellence and innovation.
