The UIA World Forum of Mediation Centres was established in 2001. Every nine months, it brings together some of the best commercial mediation practitioners, officers and members of commercial mediation centres from around the world. They join with lawyers, business leaders, academics, trainers and others interested in learning and sharing insights about the development and use of the mediation process. Each Forum typically brings together participants from 15 to 20 or more countries, typically from four or five continents, each bringing a different perspective on the use and development of mediation in their jurisdiction.
Whether you come from a country in which mediation is already readily accepted and integrated into the dispute resolution system, or from one in which the “dispute resolution revolution” is not yet fully accepted, the Forum will be of great interest and value to you.
The scientific program of each Forum is designed by its two co-presidents, Fabienne van der Vleugel (VDV AVOCATS, France, Serris) and Ross W. Stoddard, III (USA, Dallas, Texas). Their mission is to ensure that the dozen or more sessions of each Forum are designed to enhance your knowledge of the mediation process and to help you identify best practices as a mediator. The sessions are presented by renowned, deeply-experienced mediators and professionals, who participate in each two-day Forum.
Equally, if not more importantly, each Forum will provide you with numerous opportunities to develop relationships and exchange insights on the development and use of mediation with colleagues from a multitude of different cultures around the world. Those opportunities can have a profoundly beneficial impact on your professional expertise. The Forum is unique in that it brings together in a different country every nine months so many professionals who are interested in mediation.
The Forum also encourages students to register and attend the Forum. Each has an opportunity to participate in a writing competition, designed by Fabienne, which aims to raise young people’s awareness of mediation, and to allow them to share their insights about the mediation process.
We are delighted to have you join us for the next Forum. It will be an unforgettable international event, and colleagues from all over the world have already begun confirming their participation. Since attendance is limited to available space, be sure to register early to avoid missing out.
We look forward to welcoming you to the next Forum!
