In response to several requests and due to the extraordinary circumstances we are living under, it has been decided to exceptionally accept complete nominations  received
before September 9, 2020 at 12 pm CEST

The award was established to recognize individuals and/or organisations that contribute actively to the development and promotion of the Rule of Law at the national, regional or international level, particularly within the legal community.

Since its creation, it has been successively awarded to the Malaysian Bar, in 2016; to Saidbek Nuritdinov, President of the Union of Advocates of the Republic of Tajikistan, in 2017; to the Honourable Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court in 2018, and to French lawyer, Bertrand Favreau, President of the IDHAE, in 2019.

Nominations can be submitted through the official nomination form in English, French, or Spanish, (see below) and by including at least one letter of recommendation. Self-nominations are not accepted.

All the nominees:

  • Must be lawyers, judges, bar associations or lawyers’ organisations, or eminent legal organisations practicing in the public or private sector;
  • Must have made significant, recent, and peaceful contributions to promote the Rule of Law;
  • May be UIA members (except for those holding official functions within the association).

The UIA/LexisNexis Rule of Law Award is a symbolic prize that aims to acknowledge and publicise award-recipients for their commitment and actions.
