Upcoming 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR): UIA “Standsup4HumanRights”

The UIA is responding to the United Nations call for action and joining Human Rights Day’s (December10) a year-long campaign which has been launched to mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948, the UDHR is a milestone document in the history of human rights, proclaiming for the first time the inalienable rights to which everyone – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status – is inherently entitled as a human being.

The UDHR is the most translated document in the world, currently available in 504 languages.

UIA belIeves that this upcoming 70th anniversary is a great opportunity to join voices to reaffirm around the world the universality, indivisibility and interdependence of human rights.

By organising events, raising awareness, and launching and supporting UN’s specific actions, the UIA intends to get actively involved in this year-long campaign and invites you to engage and mobilize your bar association and people around you for human rights.
