International Traineeship Programme

UIA International Traineeship Programme

The UIA promotes and develops continuing training for lawyers. This commitment takes several forms: one of them is that law firms’ members of the UIA can offer traineeships to young lawyers for international legal practice

The project seeks to offer junior lawyers an experience similar to that of a local practitioner or legal trainee in the host law firm, as part of the pursuance of educational goals for her/his future professional career.

Advantages of the programme from the trainee’s perspective
- Increase knowledge of a particular legal system or area of law                   - Gain experience and specific skills
- Develop professional and personal contacts                                                   - For many, improve language skills
- Experience other cultures, societies and legal systems

 From the host firm's perspective
- Draw on the trainee's specific skills, background and knowledge (e.g. for matters involving the trainee's jurisdiction or comparative law)
- Facilitate international contacts for firm members
- Build a foundation for future professional contacts through the trainee that will continue after the trainee returns home
