Joint actions in support of Egyptian lawyers and human rights defenders

In early 2021, over one hundred NGOs and lawyers’ organizations from around the world wrote to Ministers for Foreign Affairs calling them to lead and support the creation of a monitoring and reporting mechanism on the ever-deteriorating human rights situation in Egypt at the 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

At the 46th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, under ITEM 4 (Human rights situations that require the Council’s attention), a group of States led by Finland delivered a joint declaration to condemn the widespread human rights violations being carried out by the Egyptian government. In a joint oral statement delivered by the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) at the same 46th Session, UIA joined NGOs from around the world to welcome this joint declaration and demand that Egypt begins to immediately release and provide remedy to all those arbitrarily detained.
