Navigating the Cloud: Legal and regulatory perspectives on Data and IP in Cloud Services
This session explores the legal and regulatory dimensions of cloud services, with a focus on the protection and circulation of data in the era of cloud computing and big data. Key topics include the technological and regulatory frameworks governing cloud services, the evolution of intellectual property rights in relation to cloud-based environments, and the challenges of data management, analysis, and protection. Particular attention will be given to the responsibilities of cloud service providers, including liability issues, privacy concerns under the GDPR, and compliance with emerging data protection laws.  Cloud services pose significant data protection issues, including where data centers are located and the potential for cross-border data transfers, the disclosure of personal data to cloud service providers, contractual provisions for the protection of stored personal data, and the risk that data security breaches at cloud services companies can impact large numbers of clients and their consumers and employees’ personal data.
