UIA Wellness Forum in New York: A Global Conversation on Lawyers’ Wellbeing

Events

The seminar “Health & Wellness for Lawyers: International Perspectives on Promoting Peak Performance among Attorneys, their Organizations, and their Communities” took place in New York in May 8 and 9, bringing together legal professionals, judges, academics, mental health experts, and international speakers for a timely and meaningful discussion on wellbeing in the legal profession.

Organised by the UIA and co-sponsored by the ABA Litigation Section, the event reflected the growing recognition that lawyers’ wellbeing is a professional and organisational priority. In a period marked by complexity, high pressure, technological change, and increasing demands on legal professionals, the forum offered a space to reflect on how the legal community can promote healthier, more sustainable, and more resilient ways of working. The discussions highlighted the importance of moving beyond individual coping strategies and addressing wellbeing as a shared responsibility within firms, courts, institutions, and the wider legal ecosystem.

The forum also created valuable opportunities for connection, including networking moments and an open session designed to encourage personal reflections and shared experiences.

The UIA Wellbeing Committee warmly thanks all speakers, moderators, participants, sponsors, institutional partners, and colleagues who contributed to the success of the New York seminar. The event confirmed the importance of continuing this conversation at international level and of promoting wellbeing as an essential element of excellence, sustainability, and humanity in legal practice.
