Call for nominations - UIA “Rule of Law” Award in cooperation with LexisNexis - Deadline: April 30, 2017
The Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA) annual “Rule of Law” Award was established in cooperation with LexisNexis to reward individuals and/or organisations contributing actively to the development and promotion of the Rule of Law at the national, regional or international level, particularly within the legal community.
It is a purely symbolic prize, without any financial endowment, that is aimed at acknowledging and publicising the award-recipients for their commitment and actions.
Nominations
- Nominations can be made by all UIA members until April 30, 2017 through a nomination form duly completed in one of the three UIA working languages (see below). Incomplete forms shall not be considered.
- ??All the nominees:
- Must be lawyers or judges, bar associations or lawyers’ organisations or eminently legal organisations practicing in the public or private sector;
- May be UIA members (except for those holding official functions within the association);
- Must have spearheaded the promotion and development of the Rule of Law;
- Must have made significant, recent and peaceful contributions to promote the Rule of Law.
It is highly desirable that the contributions, actions and/or commitment justifying the nominations made go beyond the framework of normal professional obligations, are above and beyond the call of duty and show a certain degree of courage from their authors. The nominees’ investment in the Rule of Law may take the form of a long-term commitment or a one-time extraordinary act, within the framework of community or pro bono work.
In all cases, the nominations must reflect UIA’s values and goals (cf. Art. 2 and 3 of UIA’s Statutes).
- Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- A nomination may be made several times, but the nominees cannot receive the Award more than once.
Award-Giving Ceremony
The UIA/LexisNexis Rule of Law Award shall be handed over personally to the recipient or his/her/their representative by representatives from the UIA and LN leadership, during the annual UIA congress’ Opening Ceremony, which will be held on Friday, October 27, 2017, in Toronto, Canada.
In addition, the award-recipient’s congress participation fees shall also be waived for the current year.
