UIA Position Paper on the Status of the In-House Counsel
UIA Executive Committee - Statement
As a global organization of legal professionals, the UIA affirms the principle that all lawyers, whether engaged in private practice or employed as In-House Counsel, contribute to the promotion of the rule of law, and should therefore be subject to equal qualifications, ethical rules and disciplinary oversight.
In this regard, and following a UIA survey in relation to the legal status of the In-House Counsel, carried out in 35 countries on four continents, in 2024 and 2025, the UIA has prepared a position paper which takes into account the comments made by UIA’s collective members.
