A word from...

  • Carlo MASTELLONE

    UIA President

Welcome to the 2025 UIA Congress in Guadalajara, the capital city of the State of Jalisco, Mexico.
Thank you to the individual members of the Mexican Organising Committee and to the leaders of the three Mexican Bar Associations, Ilustre y Nacional Colegio de Abogados de México, Barra Mexicana (Colegio de Abogados) and Asociación Nacional de Abogados de Empresa, for their generous and enthusiastic support.
The Congress venue that we have selected, the Expo Guadalajara Convention Centre, in line with the UIA Sustainability Guidelines, is certified for sustainability purposes as a carbon neutral/environmentally friendly convention centre, with a waste management policy in place, using eco-friendly products and food, with a water usage and lighting and energy policy focused on reducing consumption. The convention centre is located within walking distance from hotels and easily is accessible by public transport.
This will make Guadalajara 2025 the first sustainable compliant Congress in the history of the UIA!
In our era of complexity and change, both Main Themes deal with the challenges and developments in relation to two of the most topical and critical issues of interest to international legal business consultants and litigators. The first Main Theme on “FDI dispute resolution” will explore the various dispute resolution options available, including mediation, as provided by international agreements and applicable BITs, and faced with the new kinds of issues giving raise to disputes (such as energy transition, sanctions, and environmental and technological issues). The second Main Theme on Agrifood, Sustainability and International Trade will deal with the multiple legal aspects involved in transforming agri-food systems to make them more sustainable, resilient, inclusive, equitable and healthy, in a changing climate and environment.
In addition you will be able to choose amongst a variety of some 45 different Working Sessions covering all the areas of the law, with speakers and participants from over 80 countries.
I look forward to welcoming you to Guadalajara for an unforgettable experience!

  • Arturo PUEBLITA FERNANDEZ

President of the UIA 69th Congress

Dear colleagues and friends of the UIA,
It is an honor to address you as President of the 69th Congress of the UIA. We warmly invite you to join us in Guadalajara, Mexico, from 29 October to 2 November 2025.
The UIA Congress is a unique opportunity for lawyers from around the world to meet, exchange ideas and strengthen ties. In a globalized world, spending time with colleagues from different cultures, committed to law and justice, is a valuable experience.
Mexico and Guadalajara offer an unrivaled setting. Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico, is a living testimony to the blend of modernity and tradition that characterizes our nation. Guadalajara is the heart of Mexico's emblematic traditions. The "mariachi", a musical symbol of our country and declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, originated here. It is also the birthplace of tequila and charrería (Mexican livestock herding). Much of what is associated with Mexico — mariachi, tequila, traditional hats and Jarabe Tapatío dance — originated in Jalisco.
Guadalajara's cuisine is another of its great attractions. From the tortas ahogadas ("drowned" sandwiches) and tacos, to the haute fusion cuisine, each meal is a delight for the senses. Guadalajara is a key technological development center in Latin America. It is home to important technology companies such as IBM, Oracle, Cisco, Toshiba, Intel, HP, and Dell. Jalisco represents 40% of the IT industry in Mexico. The city has modern infrastructures for a productive and pleasant stay.
This congress will allow participants to attend high-level conferences and workshops on the most relevant international law topics. It will be an opportunity to learn from experts and share knowledge. Guadalajara offers unforgettable experiences. See you in Mexico, Guadalajara awaits you!

WELCOME TO GUADALAJARA!

The UIA Congress goes to Mexico!
Capital of the state of Jalisco in western Mexico, Guadalajara is one of the country's most important cities. Modern because it is rooted in the development of new technologies, it is also the birthplace of the mariachis, moulded in their sequined costumes and wearing their large round hats, the famous Mexican sombrero. The world-wide known tequila is produced in the village of the same name, some 60km away.
The heart of Guadalajara boasts a wealth of historic monuments, pretty green squares and fine colonial buildings. Like Guanajuato, Guadalajara is also a major university town, with exchanges with cities in several countries.
