The UIA-IROL webinar will focus on the state of the legal profession in Turkey. Panelists include, a Belgian lawyer who will describe her work as a trial observer of trials against Turkish lawyers, describing the scale and nature of the attacks perpetrated against lawyers simply because they are exercising their profession. The role of bar associations will also be addressed, including a discussion about the recently enacted legislation threatening the independence of Turkish bar associations. Finally, a member of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) will describe the role of the WGAD, generally, and specifically, will share her experiences about Turkish cases brought before the WGAD.
