The Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA - International Association of Lawyers ) organised the UIA Bar Leaders' Briefing at the United Nations headquarters in New York on May 30, 2014.
This special meeting has been sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Liechtenstein to the United Nations.
Among all the United Nations’ dignitaries participating in this meeting, UIA had the honour to have HE Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, Under Secretary General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, as part of its delegation.
Two forums set the pace for the day-long event.
In the morning, the forum devoted to recent progress in the development and application of international law dealt with the orientations adopted by the United Nations’ Office for Legal Affairs and proposed a panel on the presentation of the International Criminal Court, followed by a round table on women, peace and security.
The afternoon’s forum dealt with the Rule of Law and Human Rights in Peace and Development.
